Maura Jasper: SPOTLIGHT/SEARCH | Closing Reception in song with Nathaniel Russell & Chris Vorhees

Closing Reception | Join us Sunday, December 17, 2023 1—4 pm for the closing reception of SPOTLIGHT/SEARCH by Maura Jasper. We’ll be joined in song by Nathaniel Russell and Chris Vorhees.

SPOTLIGHT/SEARCH is part of the Middletown Film Project by Maura Jasper, an ongoing body of work inspired by the sociological studies of Helen and Robert Lynd titled Middletown, and the six-part documentary series of the same name produced by Peter Davis for PBS in 1982. Middletown Film Project reflects on the collective identity of Muncie as a highly studied community. Comprised of moving image, sound recordings, photographs, participatory events, and drawing, this new body of work explores the concept of “Middletown” as a myth in contention.

Join us Saturday, December 16, 2023 for an artist dinner with Maura Jasper, food by creative and cook Grace Seibert, and wine with sommelier Demian Hostetter.

Homecoming welcomes you to a table you've visited many times before. You've sat here with family, friends, lovers, and ones you miss dearly. Find comfort in a Midwest supper inspired by your coziest aunt’s or grandma’s home decked out in wallpaper and plush carpet with recipes on the table from vintage and family cookbooks spanning the 1960s to the early 2000s. Flavors and presentation will reflect Grace’s midwest upbringing as a person of color. Our pitch-in style meal extends the invitation of Spotlight/Search and "serves as a beacon — a gathering spot for anyone who searches to find [it]."

Setting is intimate and limited to 15 guests.

Maura Jasper: SPOTLIGHT/SEARCH | Opening Reception

OPENING RECEPTION | At the furthest edge of an open horizon with miles of cornfields, brownfields, commercial plazas, and quiet downtown streets, two beams of light are pointed into the night sky. They rotate slowly, piercing the darkness and serving as a beacon for anyone who seeks to find them.

Spotlight/Search is about searching, being found, and finding beauty exactly where you are.

It is for Muncie, Indiana and inspired by Middletown, as they are not the same.

Spotlight/Search took place in Muncie, Indiana July 14th, 2023 for 158 minutes.

This work is part of the Middletown Film Project by Maura Jasper, an ongoing body of work inspired by the sociological studies of Helen and Robert Lynd titled Middletown, and the six-part documentary series of the same name produced by Peter Davis for PBS in 1982.
