Stephanie Barlow
They say it better than I ever will.
Stephanie Barlow explores our connections with the natural world and brings into focus the endlessness of time and change in the everyday. Material curiosities lead her present and playful practice through drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, bookmaking, and sculpture. Barlow also works behind the scenes as a welder, fabricator, and installer with and for other artists. She holds a BFA from Southern Utah University and an MFA from Herron School of Art and Design. She lives and works in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Documentation by Jana Astrouski
As I was building up the nerve to launch COMPANION, I had a very short list of artists I knew I wanted to work with, and Stephanie Barlow was near the top. We met through Storage Space Gallery, then her Tectonic exhibition there in 2018 really pulled me in. Her patient and curious view of our shared physical world is a quietly powerful request to slow down, take notice, and trust ways that aren’t often rewarded today. Her ways seemed similar to the ways I had in mind for COMPANION, and her take on whether that aligned for her work was a welcome and meaningful measure of the track I was on. Something about her work, this work in this space feels like real life magic. We’re truly grateful to share it with so many of you! — B.
