HOMECOMING

Dinner with artist Maura Jasper, cook Grace Seibert, and sommelier Demian Hostetter

Held Saturday, December 16, 2023, Homecoming was an Indiana holiday family supper pitch-in with artist Maura Jasper amid her exhibition Spotlight/Search, a project about searching, being found, and finding beauty exactly where you are. Creative and cook Grace Seibert set a familiar table and extended an invitation to find comfort in a shared supper inspired by your coziest aunt’s or grandma’s home decked out in wallpaper and plush carpet with flavors and presentation reflecting her own midwest upbringing as a person of color. Period-spanning beverages by Demian Hostetter.

FOOD

HOMECOMING

A lover to SPOTLIGHT/SEARCH.

You've sat here with family, friends, lovers, and ones you miss dearly.
Find comfort in a Midwest supper inspired by your coziest aunt’s or grandma’s home decked out in wallpaper and plush carpet with recipes on the table from vintage and family cookbooks
spanning the 1960s to the early 2000s.

Flavors and presentation reflected my midwest upbringing as a person of color.
The pitch-in style meal extended the invitation of Spotlight/Search and "serves as a beacon —
a gathering spot for anyone who searches to find [it]."

This was a small way to reciprocate my luck having been well-fed and well-loved by my grandmas and great-grandmas.
I've come to love being Midwestern and what comes with our hospitality. We had five guests pitch-in using recipes I picked from vintage food books and from their own family recipes. I made crown roast of pork and an array of vegetable dishes generously donated by Full Hand Farm. Demian Hostetter filled the tables with fantastic wine and punch.
It was a good meal, but gathering intimately is (to me) the best part.

- GRACE SEIBERT
