Join us Friday, June 20th 6 — 11pm for the opening reception of Hold On To This Instead.

COMPANION presents a group exhibition of sculptures, paintings, drawings, ceramics, and quilts in celebration of the 2025 summer solstice weekend. Hold On To This Instead features contemporary, midwestern artists Aleyah Austin, Stephanie Barlow, Kelsey Blacklock, Meris Drew, Ryan Freund, Julian Jamaal Jones, Casey Roberts, and Shamira. Two years after the inaugural COMPANION summer solstice exhibition in 2023, this shorter, 3-day exhibition emphasizes the importance of attending to what is elemental and available to us all. Together for the first time, the artists’ traditional forms and materials make way for present-day contemplations on communing with one another and the lands and skies we share.

Hold On To This Instead is presented off-site in an intimate residential setting. The cottage and its grounds host both interior and exterior works.

Opening night marks the first astronomical day of summer in the Northern Hemisphere with the solstice occurring at 10:42 p.m. ET. Enjoy a DJ set by Landon Caldwell, golden hour views of the property, and late-night glows of lightning bugs.
